If the Canon can be picked up for a deal (and sometimes packaged with a couple of 600's it is) I'd say that's the way to go. I've been using it with 2 600EX-RT's and its performance has been flawless. Makes me wonder if some of the complaints were from people who didn't have Canon to compare to?Īnyway - the YN-E3-RT is starting to grow on me. I'd probably even believe them except for a couple of things. I too have read these complaints over and over - I think there was a lot of complaining at flashhavoc when this E3-RT came out. The Canon AF beam is fuzzy and it's tough to not hit. It's a laser-like pattern meaning if your focus points don't manage to hit one of these lines, it won't focus. The AF beam on the Yongnuo is identical to the ones on their flashes, such as the YN-565EX. Support of differential updates to minimize the use of the network.

Knowing myself I probably would have spent more to be Canon dedicated unless I really needed AF assist or 2nd curtain sync. I have a Sigma ring flash I had to send back to Sigma for a FW update when my 50D came out. I kinda like having Canon dedicated gear. I have gotten out of third party gear mostly due to lenses. If I have waited longer I'm not sure which path I would have taken. The strength of the one brand that grows out of this integration lies in the expertise of our people and a common culture that focuses on our customers. I don't miss AF assist and can't remember if I have ever used 2nd curtain sync off camera and not sure I will.
